This Weekend in Baseball History April 19th-21st

Diamondbacks (11-11) 1 AT Cubs (10-10) 2 – On Friday Kyle Hendricks shut down the D-backs through 7 innings and struck out 11. Kris Bryant had 2 hits and 2 RBI in the Cubs 5-1 win. On Saturday Zack Greinke gave up 3 hits over 6 innings. Christian Walker had 4 hits in the 6-0 win. On Sunday David Bote hit a walk-off single to lead the Cubs. The D-backs were held to just 3 hits.

Giants (9-14) 3 AT Pirates (12-7) 2 – On Friday Jordan Lyles pitched 6 scoreless innings and the Prates scored 4 runs in the 1st in the 4-1 win. On Saturday Cole Tucker hit a 2-run go ahead home run in his MLB debut. The game was called after 5 and the Pirates won 3-1. On Sunday Buster Posey hit a 3-run shot for his 1st of the year. The Giants nabbed a runner at the plate to complete the win.

Royals (7-15) 6 AT Yankees (11-10) 7 F/10 – On Friday CC Sabathia got a bit closer to 3000 strikeouts. Brett Gardner hit his 5th of the year in the 6-2 win. On Saturday the Yanks injury struggles continued as Aaron Judge went down. Masahiro Tanaka pitched well over 7 innings and the Yankees homered 4 times in the 9-2 win. On Sunday Austin Romine walked it off in the 10th. Clint Frazier hit a 3-run shot to lead the injured Yanks.

Nationals (10-10) 5 AT Marlins (6-16) 0 – On Friday The Marlins snapped their 4-game losing streak. The Marlins loaded the bases and scored 2 in the 6th in the 3-2 win. On Saturday the Marlins knocked Max Scherzer around. The Marlins scored 9 in the 9-3 win over the Nats ace. On Sunday Stephen Strasburg struck out 11 and gave up 2 hits in 8 superb innings. Ryan Zimmerman homered twice to lead the Nats.

Red Sox (9-13) 4 AT Rays (14-8) 3 F/11 – On Friday Mookie Betts homered and the Red Sox won 6-4.  On Saturday Andrew Benintendi hit a grand slam in the 2nd and had an RBI in the 9th in the 6-5 win. On Sunday Mitch Moreland hit his 7th blast of the season. Christian Vazquez brought home the winning run in the 11th as the Red Sox swept the Rays.

White Sox (8-12) 3 AT Tigers (10-10) 4 – On Friday Carlos Rodon gave up 1 run over 6 innings. Yoan Moncada went deep and the Sox scored 5 in the 7th in the 7-3 win. On Sunday Daniel Norris pitched 5 scoreless innings. Gordan Beckham homered in the narrow win.

Astros (13-8) 10 AT Rangers (12-8) 11 – On Friday Justin Verlander struck out 8 over 7 innings of 1-run ball. Jose Altuve hit his 8th homer and drove in 3 runs in the 7-2 win. On Saturday the Rangers put up a 5-spot in the 1st. Joey Gallo went deep for his 8th in the 9-4 win. On Sunday the two teams combined for 21 runs on 21 hits. The Rangers early 10-1 lead held up despite a furious comeback attempt by the Astros.

Dodgers (15-9) 6 AT Brewers (13-10) 5 – On Friday Kike Hernandez hit a 3-run shot in the 8th to lead LA. Christian Yelich hit his 11th dinger of the year in the 5-3 loss. On Saturday Christian Yelich hit 2 homers to give him 13 for the year. The Brewers held the Dodgers to 2 hits in the 5-0 win. On Sunday Joc Pederson hit his 9th and 10th home runs of the season and had 4 hits. Cody Bellinger went deep in the 9th for his 11th to win it for the Dodgers.

Mets (11-10) 4 AT Cardinals (12-9) 6 – On Friday Robinson Cano had 3 hits and drove in a run. The Cards started a mini comeback but couldn’t finish it off. On Saturday Mike Mikolas gave up 2 runs over 8 strong innings. Jose Martinez had 3 hits and 3 RBI and Paul Goldschmidt hit his 8th dinger of the year in the 10-2 win. On Sunday the Mets got homers from likely and unlikely sources but couldn’t overcome the Cards balanced attack.

Phillies (12-9) 1 AT Rockies (9-13) 4 – On Friday Charlie Blackmon walked off in the 12th with a 2-run homer. Bryce Harper went 5-7 in the 4-3 loss. On Saturday Raimel Tapia hit an inside the park home run and Charlie Blackmon homered and had 4 hits. Bryce Harper homered in the 8-5 win. On Sunday Jon Gray shut down the Phils over 6 innings. The Rockies scored 4 to back him and secure their 6th win in 7 games.

Mariners (16-9) 6 AT Angels (9-13) 8 – On Friday Jay Bruce hit his 9th dinger and the Mariners had 4 homers. Mike Trout hit his 6th of the year in the 5-3 loss. On Saturday the Mariners hit 4 homers and won 6-5. On Sunday the Angels broke a 6-game losing streak. The Mariners scored 6 in the 9th to make it close but it wasn’t enough to top Tommy La Stella’s 2 homers and the Angels 8 runs.

Blue Jays (11-12) 5 AT Athletics (11-13) 4 – On Friday Marcus Stroman dominated over 8 scoreless innings. The Blue Jays put up 4 runs in the 2nd in the 5-1 win. On Saturday the Blue Jays scored 10 runs on 15 hits. They also held the A’s to 1 run in the 10-1 win. On Sunday Justin Smoak homered and had 4 hits for the Jays. Toronto had 13 hits in the win and completed the series sweep.

Reds (8-13) 3 AT Padres (12-11) 4 – On Friday Matt Strahm gave up 1 run over 8 innings but Derek Dietrich homered in the 11th. Fernando Tatis Jr. went deep for his 6th in the 3-2 loss. On Saturday Luis Castillo struck out 9 over 6 innings. Jesse Winker homered in the 4-2 win. On Sunday the Padres snapped a 6-game losing streak. Fernando Tatis Jr. has a hitting streak of ten games and the Padres scored all their runs in the 3rd.

Twins (12-7) 4 AT Orioles (8-15) 3 – On Saturday Eddie Rosario homered twice and had 3 hits to win the first game of the doubleheader, 6-5. Several of the Twins went deep twice in the 2nd game. The Twins scored 16 runs on 19 hits in the 16-7 win to sweep the day. On Sunday fan favorite, Willians Astudillo, drove in 2 and the Twins completed the series sweep.

Braves (11-10) 11 AT Indians (12-9) 5 – On Saturday the Indians scored 6 in the 5th to beat the Braves 8-4 in game 1 of the doubleheader. In game 2 the Indians led by 7 early but the Braves came back. The Braves Bullpen struck out 10 over 7.2 scoreless innings and scored 5 in the 9th in the 8-7 win. On Sunday Night Baseball Josh Donaldson hit 2 homers to lead Atlanta. Francisco Lindor hit his 1st of the year but the Braves muscled out 11 runs on 16 hits.
