Last Night in Baseball History May 1st

Rays (19-11) 2 AT Royals (11-20) 8 Double Header – In game 1 Adalberto Mondesi homered and the Royals jumped out to a 3-0 lead off the Rays opener. Willy Adames had both RBI for the Rays in the 3-2 loss. In game 2 The Royals knocked around Blake Snell scoring 3 in the 1st and 4 in the 4th. Glenn Sparkman pitched 7 scoreless innings and only gave up 3 hits. The Royals collected 11 hits and a doubleheader sweep.

Orioles (11-21) 6 AT White Sox (13-15) 7 Double Header – In game 1 the O’s made some errors and quickly found themselves in a 4-0 hole. They managed to score 3 in the 4th and 2 more in the later innings to top the White Sox 5-4. In game 2 Yonder Alonso walked it off with a 2-RBI single to split the doubleheader. Jose Abreu had 2 hits and 4 RBI for the White Sox.

Athletics (14-19) 3 AT Red Sox (14-17) 7 – Mitch Moreland hit home run number 9 on the year for the Sox. The Red Sox used 6 pitchers to hold the A’s to 3 runs and nail down the win. The win gave the Sox a sweep and put the A’s losing streak at 6 games.

Pirates (14-14) 7 AT Rangers (14-15) 5 – The Pirates put up 4 runs in the 4th on their way to their second win after the 8-game losing streak. Bryan Reynolds had a bases clearing double for the Pirates. Joey Gallo homered again and again it was a deep blast this one was his 11th on the year.

Yankees (17-13) 2 AT Diamondbacks (18-13) 3 – Ketel Marte went deep and the D-backs took a 2-game sweep over the Yanks. The Yankees were playing well despite the injuries, but you can only go so far when Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton are replaced with Cameron Maybin and Michael Tauchman.

Cubs (16-12) 11 AT Mariners (18-15) 0 – Jon Lester held Seattle to 1 hit while striking out 8 over 7 superb innings. The Cubs scored early and often starting with a 6-run 2nd. Javier Baez hit his 10th deep ball of the year and finished with 3 hits and 2 RBI. The Cubs offense exploded for 11 runs on 10 hits. The Cubs have won 4 in a row, while the Mariners have dropped 4 in a row.

Cardinals (20-10) 5 AT Nationals (12-17) 1 – The Cards scored 3 runs in the 1st off of some questionable Washington defense. Marcell Ozuna had 3 hits and Jose Martinez drove in 2. Max Scherzer finished 7 innings but was charged with 3 runs. Miles Mikolas gave up 1 run over 6 innings. The Nationals extended their win streak to 5 games and have won 10 of their last 11 to become the second team to reach 20 wins.

Tigers (13-15) 3 AT Phillies (17-13) 7 – Bryce Harper’s struggles continued, but the rest of the Lineup was just fine. The Phillies piled on 15 hits and 7 runs. Maikel Franco doubled in 3 runs as part of a 4-run 7th. Rhys Hoskins hit his 9th dinger of the year for the Phillies who have a 2-game lead atop the NL East. The Tigers put up 12 hits but left 11 on base.

Indians (16-13) 2 AT Marlins (9-21) 4 – Caleb Smith has an ERA of 2.00 through 6 starts, last night he pitched 7 innings of 1-run ball to pick up the win for the Marlins. Rosell Herrera drove in 3 runs as the Marlins are looking to become the last team to reach 10 wins on the season as we enter May. The Indians have had some injuries and have had some stars struggle to begin the year. It got worse last night after Corey Kluber broke his forearm on a 102-mph comebacker.

Reds (13-17) 1 AT Mets (15-15) 0 – Jacob deGrom looked like himself with 7 great shutout innings, unfortunately the Mets reverted to last year’s team and didn’t provide deGrom with any runs. Jose Iglesias homered off Edwin Diaz to hand the Mets another tough late loss. The Reds held the Mets scoreless and only allowed 5 hits.

Padres (17-14) 1 AT Braves (15-15) 5 – Max Fried dominated through 7 1-run innings and picked up his 4th win. Dansby Swanson homered and drove in 3 runs to back Fried. Manny Machado’s blast was all the offense the Padres could muster.

Rockies (14-17) 11 AT Brewers (17-15) 4 – Nolan Arenado hit homers number 8 and 9 and finished the day with 3 hits and 4 RBI. Trevor Story went deep and drove in 3 as the Rockies offense broke out to the tune of 11 runs on 10 hits.

Astros (18-13) 2 AT Twins (18-10) 6 – Martin Perez threw 8 spectacular shutout innings. The Astros only managed 4 hits against him as he moved to 4-0. Jonathan Schoop went deep for the Twins who have won 7 of their last 10.

Dodgers (20-13) 1 AT Giants (13-18) 2 – Hyun-Jin Ryu was brilliant over 8 innings, but the Dodgers struggled to provide offense. Buster Posey hit a walk-off single to win it for the Giants. The Dodgers were 1-10 with runners in scoring position. Cody Bellinger picked up his league leading 38th RBI and he stole his 6th base.

Blue Jays (14-16) 3 AT Angels (14-17) 6 – The Angels came up 15 times with a man on 2nd or 3rd, but only managed 1 hit. It happened to be a Mike Trout bases clearing double to extend their lead and winning streak to 3 games. Rowdy Tellez and Randal Grichuk homered in the Jays loss.
