White Sox (16-20) 0 AT Indians (20-16) 5 F/5 – Carlos Carrasco threw a 5-inning shutout in a rain-shortened game in Cleveland. Jordan Luplow went deep twice for the Indians who held the White Sox to just 2 baserunners in the game.
Angels (17-20) 13 AT Tigers (16-18) 0 – Albert Pujols hit a solo shot in the 3rd to become just the 3rd player ever to reach 2,000 career RBI. After a successful 1st inning by the Opener, Felix Pena pitched 7 scoreless innings and only gave up 3 hits. Tommy La Stella hit 2 home runs and drove in 4 runs. The Angels hit 5 home runs and had 16 hits in the blowout.
Marlins (10-27) 1 AT Cubs (22-13) 4 – Yu Darvish started, but only got through 4 innings because he threw 97 pitches to do it. Mike Montgomery came on in relief and shut down the Marlins for the remaining 5 innings. Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo went yard to lead the Cubs offense. The Cubs maintained their hot pace as they won their 3rd in a row and are holding off a Brewers team that has won their last 6 games.
Giants (16-21) 11 AT Rockies (17-20) 12 – It actually was snowing to start this game, but apparently snow doesn’t stop Coors Field. The teams combined for 23 hits and 20 runs in a back and forth game. Nolan Arenado went 3-4 with a homer and 3 RBI. Tyler Austin homered twice and drove in 6 RBI in the loss. The Rockies offense scored 3 runs in the 1st and 6th and 4 runs in the 2nd.
Reds (16-22) 3 AT Athletics (17-22) 0 – Tanner Roark pitched 6 shutout innings for the Reds who only allowed 6 hits in the shutout. Derek Dietrich hit his 10th blast of the year and 2 innings later Eugenio Suarez hit his 11th. Chris Bassitt pitched into the 8th and struck out 9 but surrendered 3 runs in the loss. Although the Reds sit in last place, they have a +23-run differential which is 8th in baseball.
Mariners (20-20) 1 AT Yankees (22-15) 3 – The Yankees used 5 pitchers to hold the Mariners to 1 run. Cameron Maybin and Gio Urshela had RBI hits for New York. Mike Leake pitched 7 strong innings in the loss and Domingo Santana homered for their lone run.
Rangers (17-18) 2 AT Astros (23-15) 4 – Josh Reddick did his best JBJ impression and took away what would’ve been a 3-run go-ahead homer. Wade Miley gave up 2 runs over 6 innings, and George Springer hit his 13th blast. Hunter Pence’s resurgence continued as he hit a 2-run shot for the Rangers runs.
Braves (18-20) 2 AT Diamondbacks (22-16) 3 F/10 – It was a matchup of 2 good young pitchers. Mike Soroka gave up 1 run over 6 innings and Luke Weaver pitched 7 innings of 1-run ball. The game looked over with the D-backs down to their last out, but David Peralta hit a home run to tie it and send the game into extras. In the bottom of the 10th Ketel Marte hit a bloop single for the walk-off win.
Nationals (15-22) 6 AT Dodgers (25-15) 0 – Patrick Corbin shut down the Dodgers through 7 innings yielding only 3 hits. Howie Kendrick hit a 3-run shot in the 1st to give the Nats the early lead. The Dodgers were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left 9 on base. They also committed 3 errors on a frustrating night. The win snapped a 4-game losing streak for the Nationals.
