On Saturday Willson Contreras hit a walk-off blast in the 15th to give the Cubs the division lead back. The teams combined to go 0-13 with runners in scoring position and left 20 men on base in the Cubs 2-1 extra inning victory. On Sunday Night Baseball Jon Lester pitched 6.2 innings without giving up an earned run. Kris Bryant homered and had 3 hits for the Cubs who have won 12 of their last 14.
Angels (19-21) 1 AT Orioles (14-26) 5 – On Friday Mike Trout went deep and drove in 3, and Andrelton Simmons had 4 hits. The Angels had 12 hits in the 8-3 win. On Saturday Albert Pujols hit 2 homers in his assault on Willie Mays. The Angels Bullpen pitched 5 scoreless innings in the 7-2 win. On Sunday John Means gave up 1 run over 6 innings and the Orioles hit 4 homers. Mike Trout went deep in the loss for the Angels.
White Sox (18-21) 5 AT Blue Jays (16-24) 1 – On Friday Randal Grichuk and Teoscar Hernandez went deep to give the Jays an early 4-1 lead. Daniel Hudson gave up a run as the Opener, but then the Bullpen gave up 2 runs over 8 innings in the 4-3 win. On Saturday Ivan Nova gave up 1 run over 6 innings. James McCann had 4 hits in the 7-2 win. On Sunday Yonder Alonso and Tim Anderson each hit jacks as part of a 5-run 4th. Lucas Giolito struck out 8 over 7 innings of 1-run ball to grab the win.
Mariners (20-23) 2 AT Red Sox (22-19) 11 – On Friday the Red Sox had an offensive explosion and dominant pitching performance. Mitch Moreland and Rafael Devers drove in 4 runs each, and Eduardo Rodriguez threw 7 shutout innings in the 14-1 rout. On Saturday Jay Bruce hit his 12th blast as part of a 4-run first, but the Red Sox put up 8 runs in the 3rd. Rafael Devers had 3 hits in the 9-5 win. On Sunday J.D. Martinez homered twice and Michael Chavis drove in 5 runs for Boston. The Red Sox put on another offensive show to complete the sweep and win their 5th in a row.
Yankees (24-16) 7 AT Rays (24-15) 1 – On Friday Gio Urshela had the go-ahead RBI and the Yankees Bullpen struck out 6 batters over 4 scoreless innings. Tyler Glasnow left with an injury in the 4-3 loss. On Saturday Yandy Diaz hit two homers and drove in 4 runs from the leadoff spot. The Rays used their Opener strategy to hold the Yankees to 2 runs in the Rays 7-2 victory. On Sunday Masahiro Tanaka held the Rays to 1 run through 7 innings. Blake Snell struck out 12 over 5.2 innings in the loss. The Yankees won the series and are just half a game back.
Marlins (10-29) 1 AT Mets (19-20) 4 – On Friday Ahmed Rosario hit a grand slam and the Mets scored 8 runs in the 1st inning. Zack Wheeler struck out 11 over 7 innings of 2-run ball in the 11-2 blowout. On Saturday Jacob deGrom struck out 8 and only gave up a run over 7 strong innings. Peter Alonso hit his 12th blast in the 4-1 win.
Tigers (18-20) 5 AT Twins (25-14) 3 – On Friday Jake Odorizzi gave up just 1 hit over 7 dominant innings. Mitch Garver and Max Kepler homered, and Jorge Polanco drove in 3 in the 6-0 shutout win. On Saturday the teams played a double header. In game 1, Ronny Rodriguez homered twice, and the Tigers scored 2 in the 9th in the 5-3 win. In game 2, C.J. Cron had 4 hits and drove in 3 in the Twins 8-3 win. On Sunday Nicholas Castellanos went deep and had 3 hits for Detroit. Daniel Norris gave up 2 runs over 6.1 innings in the win which split the series.

Robinson Chirinos, Yuli Gurriel, and Jake Marisnick went yard in the 3-0 win. On Saturday Aledmys Diaz hit a grand slam. Gerrit Cole struck out 12 over 6 innings, and the Astros put up 13 hits in the 11-4 win. On Sunday George Springer was 5-5 with 4 RBI and Alex Bregman was 3-5 with 5 RBI, both had multi-homer games. The Astros had 15 runs on 18 hits to complete the sweep and their 5th win in a row.
Phillies (23-16) 6 AT Royals (14-27) 1 – On Friday Alex Gordon homered twice to lead the Royals. Homer Bailey gave up a run over 5 innings and the Bullpen struck out 8 over the remaining 4 in the 5-1 win. On Saturday Zach Eflin pitched a complete game shutout only allowing 4 hits. The entire Phillies Lineup besides one, recorded a base hit in the 7-0 shutout win. On Sunday Cole Irvin had a special MLB debut. He tossed 7 innings of 1-run ball to record his 1st win. The Phillies backed him with a 6-run 5th for the win.
Pirates (20-17) 10 AT Cardinals (22-19) 6 – On Friday Adam Wainwright and Trevor Williams gave up 1 run over 7 innings. Starling Marte provided the go-ahead RBI in the 8th in the 2-1 win. On Saturday Gregory Polanco tripled home a run and Josh Bell did the same with a single to give the Pirates a lead. The Pirates won 2-1 for the second day in a row. On Sunday Josh Bell hit a homer and was 4-4 with 5 RBI. The Pirates scored 10 runs on 14 hits for their 3rd win in a row.
Padres (22-19) 7 AT Rockies (19-21) 10 – On Friday every one of the starting Rockies got a hit. Trevor Story and Ian Desmond had 3 hits each to lead the Rockies in the 12-2 thrashing. On Saturday the Padres scored the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice. Wil Myers and Hunter Renfroe went deep to lead San Diego to a 4-3 win. On Sunday Charlie Blackmon hit 2 bombs and the Rockies had 10 hits. The Rockies scored 4 in the 2nd and 5 in the 7th in the win.
Indians (21-18) 5 AT Athletics (19-23) 3 – On Friday Matt Chapman hit a walk-off homer in the 12th to win it for the A’s. Josh Phegley had 3 hits in the 4-3 extra inning win. On Saturday Ramon Laureano gave the A’s a second walk-off win in as many days. The A’s used an Opener to great effect, holding the Indians to 2 runs. Trevor Bauer didn’t allow an earned run and struck out 10 over 7 innings in the 3-2 loss. On Sunday Roberto Perez hit a 3-run shot in the 6th to give Cleveland the lead. The Indians 5-3 win avoided the sweep.
Braves (21-20) 5 AT Diamondbacks (22-19) 3 – On Friday Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a bomb for the go-ahead run in the 8th. Dansby Swanson had 3 hits and the D-backs were held to just 4 hits in the 2-1 loss. On Saturday Kevin Gausman pitched 6 innings of 1-run ball for the win. Brian McCann and Johan Camargo had big homers in the 6-4 win. On Sunday The Braves Bullpen threw 4 scoreless innings to hold onto the series win. The Diamondbacks were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left 11 on.

On Saturday Eugenio Suarez hit his 12th homer to tie it and then in the 7th Derek Dietrich singled home a run to take the lead for good. The Reds Bullpen pitched 5 shutout innings and struck out 8 in the 5-4 win. On Sunday the Giants were down 4-2 going into the 7th when they scored 2 runs and then 2 more in the 8th. Pablo Sandoval homered and had 3 hits in the win.
