Last Night in Baseball History June 24th

Blue Jays (29-50) 8 AT Yankees (50-28) 10 – The Yankees seem to play better when behind and yesterday was no different. Down 2 after the first, The Yankees put up 3 runs in the 5th and 7 in the 6th. Giancarlo Stanton hit his 1st homer of the year and D.J. LeMahieu had 4 hits in the win. C.C. Sabathia got the win by throwing 6 innings of 2-run ball as the Yankees won their 50th game of 2019.

Mets (37-42) 7 AT Phillies (40-38) 13 – The only thing more of a mess than the Phillies 7-game losing streak is the entire Mets organization. Jean Segura went deep and had 4 hits, and Maikel Franco went deep and drove in 3 runs. The Phillies hit 4 homers and scored 13 runs on 19 hits.

White Sox (36-40) 5 AT Red Sox (43-37) 6 – The Red Sox scored a run each in the final 5 innings including a walk-off single from Marco Hernandez. Jackie Bradley Jr. and Mookie Betts homered for Boston in the win. The White Sox loss was their 3rd straight and they are now 5.5 games out of a Wild Card spot.

Braves (46-33) 3 AT Cubs (43-35) 8 – Willson Contreras homered in the 2nd and almost caused a brawl in the aftermath. He singled home a run in the 4th and the Cubs broke it open with a 5-run 5th. Jon Lester didn’t allow an earned run over 6 innings to earn his 7th win.

Royals (27-52) 2 AT Indians (43-35) 3 F/10 – Whit Merrifield homered in the 4th to start the scoring, but Jose Ramirez answered with an RBI double in the bottom half of the inning. Bobby Brandley had an RBI double in the 6th to put the Indians ahead but the Royals tied it in the 8th and the game went to extras. Jason Kipnis hit a walk-off blast for Cleveland which won its 4th game in a row.

Dodgers (54-26) 5 AT Diamondbacks (40-40) 8 – The Dodgers jumped out to a 3 run lead in the 1st but Christian Walker hit a 3-run shot to bring the Diamondbacks back into the game. Zack Greinke went deep off Clayton Kershaw and settled down after a rocky 1st. The D-backs scored 4 in the 8th to put the game out of reach and with the win they got back to .500.

Rockies (41-37) 2 AT Giants (33-44) 0 – Jon Gray pitched 6 scoreless innings as the Rockies shut out the Giants. The Rockies didn’t manage much offense themselves in the pitching duel. David Dahl hit a 2-run blast in the 3rd to decide the game. The Rockies are now the sole owners of the second Wild Card spot.
