Last Night in Baseball History July 4th

Marlins (32-53) 2 AT Nationals (45-41) 5 – Anibal Sanchez gave up 1 earned run over 6 innings to earn the win as the Nationals swept the Marlins and pushed their winning streak to 4. Kurt Suzuki and Anthony Rendon went deep to lead the offense and with the win the Nationals moved into a tie for the NL Wild Card.

Indians (48-38) 8 AT Royals (29-59) 4 – Jose Ramirez hit 2 homers and his 2nd capped off a 6-run 7th for the Indians. Francisco Lindor had 2 hits and 3 RBI as the Indians had 12 hits. The Indians Bullpen took over in the 3rd and pitched 6.1 innings of 1-run ball. The Indians swept the Royals and have a 4-game winning streak going.

Brewers (46-42) 0 AT Reds (41-44) 1 – Brandon Woodruff gave up just 1 run over 6 innings but was tagged with the loss thanks to Luis Castillo. Castillo took a no-hitter into the 7th before settling for 7.2 innings of 1-hit ball with 9 strikeouts. Jesse Winker had 3 hits and came around to score on an RBI single from Yasiel Puig in the 1st for the game’s only run. It was the 3rd win in a row for the Reds over the Brewers.

Tigers (28-54) 11 AT White Sox (41-43) 5 – Jose Rondon homered but it was the Tigers who led going into the 6th. Niko Goodrum went deep, and the Tigers put up 5 runs in the 6th on their way to the win. Everyone in the Tigers Lineup had had a hit as they scored 11 runs on 15 hits. Matthew Boyd gave up 4 runs and only pitched 5.1 innings but managed 13 strikeouts before he was done. Leury Garcia had 4 hits for the White Sox in the loss.

Cubs (46-42) 11 AT Pirates (42-44) 3 – Kris Bryant and Albert Almora Jr. homered early but the Pirates quickly scored 2 of their own. Willson Contreras hit his 18th blast of the season to put the Cubs up by 2 and they led by 1 going into the 5th. They scored 5 runs in the 5th and 2 more in the 6th as they routed the Pirates. Joe Maddon was ejected in the 4th in what seemed to be a calculated move. Bryant ended up with 4 hits and Contreras had 3 RBI in the win. Jose Quintana gave up 3 runs over 7 innings.

Twins (54-32) 2 AT Athletics (48-40) 7 – Marcus Semien hit a solo shot in the 5th to tie the game and then hit a grand slam in the 8th to give him 5 RBI on the day. Tanner Anderson allowed 1 earned run over 4.2 innings and the Bullpen shutout the Twins for the remaining 4.1. Chris Herrmann had 4 hits and an RBI in the win. The Twins were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.

Cardinals (43-42) 5 AT Mariners (38-53) 4 – J.P. Crawford and Matt Wieters traded solo shots and then the Mariners took a 3-1 lead after 3. Dexter Fowler homered to tie it, but Tim Beckham came right back with a blast of his own. In the 7th Tommy Edman singled home 2 runs to give the Cardinals the go-ahead run. The Cardinals Bullpen shutout the Mariners through 5.2 innings to seal the win.

Yankees (56-29) 8 AT Rays (50-38) 4 F/10 – Edwin Encarnacion hit his 25th bomb of the season to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead. In the 9th Aroldis Chapman was shaky, and the Rays scored 2 to tie, but couldn’t push across the winning run. In the 10th the Yankees scored 5 runs, 3 of them off a Gary Sanchez 3-run shot that put him at 24 on the year.

Red Sox (46-41) 8 AT Blue Jays (33-55) 7 – Danny Jansen homered twice, and Freddy Galvis hit his 15th blast to put the Blue Jays up 6-1 after 4. Michael Chavis hit a 3-run shot to cap off a 6-run 6th to give the Red Sox the lead. In the 8th Eric Sogard doubled home a run to tie it, but Marco Hernandez hit a homer in the 9th for the go-ahead run.

Phillies (45-42) 6 AT Braves (52-36) 12 – The Phillies scored 4 in the 1st but the Braves scored 9 runs over the first 4 innings. Dansby Swanson went deep twice and drove in 5 runs as the Braves hit 5 homers in the win. The Braves scored 12 runs on 12 hits as they took 2 of 3 from the Phillies.

Angels (44-44) 3 AT Rangers (47-40) 9 – Lance Lynn won his 11th game as he tossed 7 innings of 2-run ball. Rougned Odor hit 2 jacks and drove in 5 runs and Nomar Mazara had 5 hits in the win. The Rangers banged out 14 hits to take down the Angels. Mike Trout hit his 25th homer of the year and his 3rd in the past 2 nights.

Padres (42-45) 1 AT Dodgers (60-29) 5 – Hyun Jin-Ryu won his 10th game and shut out the Padres through 6 innings. Ryu allowed 3 hits and lowered his ERA to 1.73. Max Muncy went deep in the 2nd and Cody Bellinger hit his 30th homer of the season in the win. Bellinger also has 71 RBI this year.
